Thank you for your interest in becoming a SAFETY PATROL at Tyler Elementary for the 2020-2021 school year.

At Tyler, we do not walk children across the street (as it says in the manual).  Our only outside job is to put up and take down the flags, which are close to the building.

Mostly, we make sure the children inside the building are walking safely during arrival and dismissal. This will need to work out with your own arrival/dismissal plans.  For instance, if you are a Kiss and Ride student at dismissal, you won’t be able to stay and take down the school flags after school.  That would perhaps be better suited to a SACC student.  I will work with you to make sure we have just the right job for YOU!

You need to be a student who reports for duty on time, performs your duties faithfully, and sets a good example for others.

You need to put your school work first, and keep up with your assignments, in order to take on this extra responsibility.

Still interested?  Let’s get started!

  1. Write a half-page essay on why you’d like to be a Tyler safety patrol.
  2. Get the signature of 2 of your fourth-grade teachers (or 2 other teachers) at the bottom of your essay.
  3. Return this paper to Mrs. Moye in room 209.

Thank you for your interesting in becoming a safety patrol.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Moye

Posted on 6/15/20: Happy summer! Ready to get reading?
Me, too!

Each year, students all across Virginia vote for their favorite authors.  To be well prepared, our Tyler Tomcats will read all 10 books recommended for elementary students.

To celebrate this success, every student who reads all 10 books will be invited to a fancy party in the spring, hosted by our incredible Tyler librarians, Mrs. Briceno and Mrs. Newman.
