2019/20 VRC
(VIRGINIA READER'S CHOICE)

The Virginia Reader's Choice voting has been extended to September 30th, 2020! Remember, 4 or more of the 10 books allows you to vote.

3rd and 4th grade students: We will vote together when we return in the fall.
**5th grade only**: You will be receiving an email with a link to place your vote.

Virginia Reader Quizzes are NO LONGER MANDATORY due to the current closure of school. However, the quizzes are in the VRC folder to the left if you are still interested in checking on your comprehension of the books. They can be sent to Mrs. B (bricenbb@pwcs.edu) or Mrs. Newman (newmanam@pwcs.edu) for review if you wish.

2020/21 VRC
(VIRGINIA READER'S CHOICE)

For those of you that are new to Virginia Reader's Choice, it is a state award given to a children's author that has been chosen as the best by the students in Virginia.  It is organized by the Virginia State Reading Association. A committee of educators decides on a list of 10 books that are outstanding examples of recent children's literature and then students are the only ones allowed to vote for the winner out of those 10. They must read a minimum of 4 of the 10 books in order to vote with their school in April. I personally ask that Tyler students try to read ALL 10  in order to make a valid and fair decision on the winner and those that complete all 10 are part of a celebration in May. For 3rd and 4th grade, the program is optional. For 5th grade, the 10 books are part of their required reading for the year and are a significant part of their language arts grade for 3rd quarter. If any students would like to start reading the books over the summer, this year's Elementary List is below.
