Vision: Mrs. Cornwell's Class will be responsible, proud, AWESOME kids!
Mission: We will achieve this through being independent, helping without being asked, being respectful to everyone, listening, trying our best, reading a lot, and following directions everyday!
Welcome to Mrs. Cornwell's 1st Grade Class Page!
Happy New Year!
We are so excited about the new year and all of the growth and progress we will make through the rest of the school year.
A few reminders as we get back into our routines and procedures:
1. 1st Grade's expectation for homework each night is for every student to read for at least 20 minutes from their book baggie and a book of interest. Your child should come home with 1 or 2 books in their bag that are at their instructional or independent reading level. THEY NEED TO READ THESE BOOKS TO YOU!
2. We will still go outside for recess if the wind chill is above 32 degrees. Hats, gloves, heavy coats are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED while we play outside for 15 minutes.
3. Please check your child's folder every Wednesday and Friday for important information and remind your child that it is their responsibility to take out the folder and check it when they return to school. I do not check folders!
4. Your child should be reading and writing the green sight word lists that come home. Once your child can read and SPELL the words correctly for 3 consecutive nights, please RETURN the list so I can give them a new one. As we finish the 2nd quarter, your child should have mastered all words up to level 10. Your practice at home has a significant impact on this!
I am looking forward to watching these kiddos grow and blossom into young learners. We have made tremendous growth already this year! Let's keep it up!
