Math - Decimals - March 17th
The 4th Grade Safe At Home Safe Alone Program is in need of volunteers. Please see the attached Flyer or watch for an email blast :)
Mrs. Chamberlain would like to thank and recognize Mrs. Gallagher (Womack), Mrs. Scarlett (Mahoney), Mrs. Barrett (Crouch), and Mr. Kron (Moye) for volunteering to teach the Fourth Grade Safe at Home Safe Alone Program on Thursday, April 6th. We still need one more parent from each of these classes to co-teach the program. The program is very easy to follow and the kids love it. We will have a one hour training session on Thursday, March 23rd from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The booklet can also be accessed by googling VA Tech Cooperative Extension Safe at Home Safe Alone Booklet. Please email Mrs. Chamberlain at email@example.com as soon as possible if you are able to volunteer. Thank you!
Snow Folders will be coming home before the winter break. Enclosed are resources for students to use to stay in practice should we have extended snow days. These are not assigned, yet I ask that students do their best. Also, these are NOT to be done over the winter break - that is a time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.
In addition to the snow folders, I encourage the use of the Tyler Portal
A new folder has been added below. It is called Virginia Studies Vocabulary Help and contains additional study guide material and unit specific vocabulary flashcards. These flashcards include pictures and words.
Multiplication Practice Games Online
This link provides many fun and engaging games and activities to help students both learn and reinforce multiplication abilities. Provided is practice learning basic facts to more advanced calculation.
Many of these games can be printed out and played with a friend or family members!
It is very important that students know their basic multiplication facts through the 12 times table. The 4th Grade curriculum does not cover basic facts, we will not be learning these facts in class. We begin with 2 digit numbers multiplied by a single digit number. Therefore, if your child does not know their basic facts they will need to be practicing and learning them at home.
Please support your child's math education by taking a few minutes each evening to work on multiplication facts. This is the foundation for the majority of math units to come (multiplication, division, fractions, measurements, and so on). Without this basic foundation, students struggle greatly.
Math Problem of the Day
I came across this website and it is a really cool idea!
If you provide your email, they will send you a math problem each day! IF you'd rather not be emailed, you can access the problem of the day on their site.
There will be a short story problem that asks 3 questions at the end of the passage - one for wee little people, young kids, and older kids.
Please try this out at home! Being able to use math in everyday situations is so important.
Thanks! I hope you enjoy it!!
Tyler Quality Student Handbook
Please review the Tyler Quality Student Handbook with your child, print and sign the Parent-Student Sign Off Form, and return to Ms. Womack by Friday, September 9th.
The Tyler Quality Student Handbook can be found at the bottom of this page, in a folder.
Snow Day Activities!
In the event of consecutive snow days, please help your child stay on track by utilizing the Tyler Portal (found on the class webpage under Links). IXL Math is always an excellent resource and students are encouraged to review Virginia History in SOL PASS.
Read together! Talk about main ideas and summarize.
Practice multiplication facts! Ask your child to demonstrate the various strageties learned to solve multiplication problems.
And please, enjoy this time together! Have fun, play games!
