Class Vision: We have "All the Elements of a Great Class"

Class Mission: By showing kindness to everyone, taking risks to try and learn new things, and by being honest in all areas, we can be great.

We will be mindul learners and thinkers this year.  Every child can learn, improve themselves, and take other people's feelings into consideration.

Math:  Math is taught with a blended approach with both traditional ways of solving math problems, as well as new strategies.  I encourage each student to select the strategy that works best for them.  Students will be engaged in a number of hands on activities involving math this year.  A unit test will be given at the end of each unit for the students to show mastery of the content.

Science:  Science is taught with as much hands on inquiry as possible.  Students will learn the content presented through a variety of instructional approaches.  The students will be encouraged to ask questions and seek those answers.  All of their work is done and kept in their Science Folder.  This should go home each night so students can review the material from the day.  Once a unit is complete the students transfer it into their Science Binder for safe keeping.

Homework:
In both math and science the students will be given work to do in class.  If time is managed well, then students should have very limited amount of work to do at home.  Work time is scheduled each lesson for assignments to be completed in class.

Welcome Back!!
Dear Students and Parents!

I am so excited to welcome you to my classroom this year. 5th grade is full of excitement, challenges, and growth! We are going to have a GREAT year!

There are many exciting changes this year for both students and parents!  First, our fifth grade is departmentalized which means the students will change classes daily.  Students will have Mr. Cerwinske for math and science, and Mrs. Moye for language arts and social studies.  We have found this is great preparation for middle school!

PWCS has also rolled out The Hub this year to make student-parent-teacher communication easier and more accessible.  I look forward to communicating with you all via this platform throughout the year!

Sign up for Class Dojo where you can see your child's behavior and work habits progress daily.
Registration information was sent home the first day with students.

Please let me know if I can help you!  I am looking forward to an amazing year with our students!!

Warm regards,

Mr. Cerwinske
