Welcome to our classroom!
I am very excited about the 2016 - 2017 school year starting up! We have a great year planned for all of the fifth grade students! We have lots of new things to be sharing with both parents and students this year. Students have been busy learning our classroom routines and procedures this week.
Vision: Mr. Cerwinske's Coffee Guardians
Mission: We will pay attention and try our best. When things get tough, we will stay with it until the end!
Science: Science is taught with as much hands on inquiry as possible. Students will learn the content presented through a variety of instructional approaches. The students will be encouraged to ask questions and seek those answers. All of their work is done and kept in their Science Folder. This should go home each night so students can review the material from the day. Once a unit is complete the students transfer it into their Science Binder for safe keeping.
Social Studies: Social Studies is focused on the geography of North America. We will be exploring the five different geographical regions of the United States. With each region we will focus on the Five Themes of Geography: Movement, Region, Human / Environmental Interaction, Location, and Place. We will learn the states and capitals, climates, natural resources, economic activities, and historical events from each region. All student work will be kept in their Social Studies Folder.
In both science and social studies the students will be given work to do in class. If time is managed well, then students should have very limited amount of work to do at home. Work time is scheduled each lesson for assignments to be completed in class.
Sign up for Class Dojo where you can see your child's behavior and work habits progress daily. Registration information was sent home the first day with students. .
Parent Portal will be up and running soon in which parents can see student grades from the teacher grade book.
I am looking forward to an amazing year with our students!!
