School libraries are essential to the development of students as life-long learners and library users. The Tyler library supports the curriculum and provides a variety of materials to promote learning and encourage reading for pleasure. Students come to the library every week for library class with Mrs. Briceno where they will have a lesson, hear a story or work on a project. They check out new books at the end of class.
Students are also welcome to come to the library to research or check out books whenever it is convenient for their teacher to send them. Children travel to and from the library in small groups throughout the day.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade– 1 book at a time
2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th Grades – 2 books at a time
Your child may keep a book up to three weeks, and may exchange it for another book at any time during that three week period. We encourage the children to select books that are on their reading level and we love to make recommendations based on the genre of books that they enjoy. Students are allowed to check out only one magazine or comic book at a time. We encourage them to choose a more challenging book to go along with the comic or magazine.
Notices for overdue books are usually sent home each grading period. It is only a reminder for the student to find their book and visit the library soon. We do NOT charge fines for overdue books, but lost or badly damaged books do need to be replaced. If the student knows that a book has been destroyed, or is sure that it is lost, the book can be paid for when the notice is received. (The price of the book is on the notice.)
Care of Library Books
Please help your child to understand their responsibility to care for library materials.
Keep books in a safe place, out of reach of small children and pets.
Keep books dry and clean. Make sure that backpacks are also dry and clean.
If something should happen to the book, please do not repair it. The library has special tapes and glues for book repair. Just enclose a note, or tell us about it. We’ll do our best to save it!
