Dear Tyler families,

I am writing to provide important information regarding attendance in the virtual learning environment. Teachers will be providing daily live lessons using the Zoom video conferencing platform. Students are expected to attend these live sessions. If your student is not able to attend a session, parents/guardians should contact their child's teacher via email for an alternative option for the specific day.

Here are ways that students can be counted as 'present' in the virtual learning environment:

  1. Participation in synchronous (live) online lesson.
  2. Viewing asynchronous online lessons or pre-recorded synchronous sessions.
  3. Engagement on an online discussion board.
  4. Submission of a daily task, assignment, or quiz.
  5. Communication to teacher regarding inability to access online resources and completion of alternate assignment (this should be rare and not a regular occurrence).

If your student will be absent, parents should email our attendance secretary, Teresa Reynolds, at ReynolTM@pwcs.edu and copy their teacher. The message must include the reason for the absence.

All students are held to compulsory attendance laws and will be required to attend school by one of the above methods. Please note that truancy guidelines will be followed if a student accrues an excessive number of absences, as defined by Notice 724-1-19, “Attendance and Excuses,” which can be found on the Prince William County Public Schools website, with all Division Policies and Regulations.

We are here to assist you in any way. Thank you for your partnership for the upcoming school year and for ensuring that your child regularly attends school.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Perilla, Principal
