Welcome to the World Languages program here at Tyler Elementary!
I am Stephanie McQuillan. I am the program coordinator as well as the Spanish teacher here at Tyler.
World Languages instruction in Spanish at Tyler Elementary School is offered to students in grades K-5.
Students receive at least 45 minutes of instruction every 4 days.
Through this program, all students develop basic communication skills in the target language while gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Instruction is guided by the five goal areas of the National and Virginia World Language Standards: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. These standards serve as the foundation for learning experiences that are integrated across multiple content areas.
Early exposure to world language learning provides students with a strong foundation for future language study, while also fostering cultural awareness, global competence, and lifelong learning skills.
Our program requires new students to transfer to Tyler Elementary. We select applicants from the following schools:
Alvey ES, Bristow Run ES, Buckland Mills ES, Cedar Point ES, Chris Yung ES, Ellis ES, Glenkirk ES, Gravely ES, Haymarket ES, Innovation ES, Loch Lomond ES, Mountain View ES, Mullen ES, Piney Branch ES, Sinclair ES, Sudley ES, T. Clay Wood ES, Tyler ES, Victory ES, West Gate ES, and Yorkshire ES.
We will have two information sessions this year for students who are interested in applying for the 2027-2028 school year.
